it used to live on your dressing table
between the powder puffs and the perfume bottles
i remember trying it on and sneaking a squirt of your scent
you said you got it in china
you were 17 travelling the world as a nanny
for a wealthy family on a boat
it hasn't left my arm since you departed
i also inherited your hands
every time i look at them i see yours
i miss you

ReplyDeleteNothing was so magical to me as a child than the exotic contents of my mother's dressing table. Thanks for bringing back that memory. (Unfortunately I didn't inherit her beautiful hands.)
ReplyDeleteSweet write. Thanks for dropping by to read mine Rall
ReplyDeleteMuch💜love
Just wonderful, Rall. It evokes sooo many memories, good and bad, happy and sad, growing up, school, a working life, and retirement. First stanza of our youngest grandaughter sneaking Mrs. Jim's makeup but now at 12 Carrie's her own. Next stanza gets to a couple of things I brought home from China and how that happened, finally my own hands with veerrry loonnng figures, I should have kept up on the piano playing bit.
ReplyDeleteI.e. you have a short bio in a nutshell.
Loved it!!!
..
I inherited my mother’s hands too .. each time I slip her diamond ring set in silver on my finger … I feel a shiver. This is incredibly lovely, Rall.
ReplyDeleteLove the sweetness of the tone, also the way it lets us feel that the first owner of the ring is very much alive in the speaker's heart.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and poignant memory of your mother and her hands. It bespeaks your love.
ReplyDeleteDear Rall, hope you have read my response to your comment on my story about the rings. Also, if you would email me (see 'Contact Us' at P&SU) I could email back re some additional help.
ReplyDeleteYes ...thank you Rosemary...will do
ReplyDeleteBut you haven't contacted me yet (or if you did it went astray) so I have written some stuff at my witchy blog, without identifying you. It could possibly be helpful to other readers too, and in any case is all the things I wanted to say to you on the matter. No need to post this to your blog if you don't want to. It's just that this is the only way I know to communicate with you. Link:
