we don't put the elderly on ice floes
like the inuit used to
we do it differently down under
it's still senecide nevertheless
sneaky senecide
evidently according to statistics
we excel at it
(bowing my head in shame)
“Age-based prejudice is the last acceptable form prejudice,” says New York University’s Michael North, who studies ageism in the workplace. “ People are making age-based generalisations and stereotypes that you wouldn’t be able to get away with about race or background.”
Biding time as more older people ‘fall off the perch’ is a convenient strategy for governments that regard older, vulnerable Australians as a burden. It’s a workable alternative when you don’t have any ice floes off your coast

Compassion, compassion; that's what is needed.

ReplyDeletesigh, this is sad but all too true ageism took the spotlight with covid. It's definitely an issue in the states.
ReplyDeleteRall, you speak to an shameful human practice that is also in the US. The way we treat those who should be venerated is shameful.
ReplyDeleteVery sad but unfortunately now often true
