o we need some joy
a fun night with fine talent
the crowd sing along
WHATS GOING ON....DEEPEST JANUARY
sydney harbour shines
sydney harbour shines
a dazzle of smiles and fireworks
a chorus of thousands sing along
a night to remember
in my deepest january
in my deepest january
no matter what
the 26th will offer
a welcome distraction
momentarily
from depressing world events
of dark despair in deepest january
australia day a special day
for aussies in summer to celebrate
for aussies in summer to celebrate
a reminder of how lucky we are
(for now anyway)
however
however
there is a growing force
who oppose the name of this day
who oppose the name of this day
and want to change the date
so for now the day stays
on the deepest darkest january date
for the indigenous people
Translation: snags on the barbie and eskies full of coldies
sausages on a barbecue and cooling containers full of cold beers

we have not resorted to throwing underwear as a sport ( not yet anyway:)

sickie is a paid day off from work (sick leave.)
aussie battlers
are known
for their keen sense
of workers' rights
to take sickies
also
for their creative approach
to problem solving

a fair go for everyone
keeps everyone happy

Love the Aussie world & celebration and all the captions.
ReplyDeleteI like the lightheartedness of your post, Rall, and some insight into Australia Day.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post so well. Love learning about Australia Day, the photo of the celebration is awesome. Love all the Aussie terms too. Smiles. I am "having a sickie" myself today. Thanks for the smiles, Rall. Such a nice contrast to January in North America.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of having Australia Day every Monday! Why not keep the celebration going! Enjoyed all of your segments AND the cartoon accompaniment.
ReplyDeleteWe all needed this boost Rall - thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour deepest January sound wonderful!
ReplyDeleteTen out of ten for the ten tenors!
ReplyDelete"no matter what

I see it in the videos and cartoons! We have the same indigenous issues in the USA, though now that we have to swear off "diversity and inclusion" it's bound to get worse. A lovely post, Rall. Thank you!
A happy, uplifting post. I love the humor as well.
