THE BOURGEOISIE DO LUNCH

Talk consists of
how well the children are doing
the continuance of legal
banking and medical dynasties
and the latest travel destination
I can feel myself swooning
resolving never to do this again

I look discreetly at the clock
Something is wrong
the hand has hardly moved since I last looked
I am the accomplished handbag
invited here to add interest and
sing for my supper

I am not doing a good job of it today
I am having an animated conversation
feigning interest while dreaming
of running away to Mexico
dancing with Pam's Mariaci Band

I have mastered the art of
dreaming with my eyes open while
conducting a meaningless conversation
a fake smile plastered on my face
With luck I will never need to do this again

  3. This was a wonderfully inventive take on the prompt. Slap ass social commentary.

    Regards,
    Doug.

  13. R, I've been at this lunch also, sometimes the fake smile is the most honest thing. Curious, is this Pam's band our napowrimo Pam?

  14. Our Pamelita is a sensation but the picture is not actually of her band . I don't think she has her own mariaci band but just give her time!

  15. These Bourgeoisie lack a discreet charm, and I can see wanting to run away with the Mariachis. Thanks for bringing this waking dream to my eyes :).

  16. Good poem - been there, got caught in that. I'm afraid you will have to do it again, you know. Good talent - to appear attentive when you're really alseep or running off to Mexico.
