"Water Water Everywhere and Not A Drop To Drink"

Napowrimo poem Day 17
Prompt: One of the elements...Water

We are island people
Our lives are linked to Neptune
the moon tides and wind
We are water babies from the deep
We swim our way out of the womb
and into the deep blue like seahorses
We know how to read a current and feel a rip
Our homes are sprinkled in sand
trekked in from the beach
Our gardens are covered in sea shells and
salt bleached driftwood
We swim like fish
ride waves like dolphins
Water is breathing for us
Yet we are the driest continent on earth
' Water water everywhere
and not a drop to drink '

  2. Although I often feel that I've been haphazardly washed up on an alien and unforgiving shore by merciless currents beyond my control, I appreciate your assertion that "We swim our way out of the womb
and into the deep blue like seahorses"

I see the deity/deities visited you too! I particularly love the first six lines.

  13. I like the image of the seahorses swimming into the deep blue. We have both beach and fresh water here in Chicago, but no surf, and you wouldn't want to drink straight from the Lake...

  16. As I was swimming this afternoon I thought about this poem I wrote and was pleased to be able to express these thoughts about the sea.
You see I even think about you when I am swimming!

  17. Yeah, water, it's an ever changing canvas, I go to the lakes a lot, and it's always different. I lived by the sea for five years and the ever changing scene was even more dramatic. Give me water, anytime!
