dverse
He came to say goodbye
formal cold indifferent
Om swastiastu
I offered him tuber roses
He smiled
said he did not like flowers
Shudder bells on alert again
Om swastiastu
All this fervour
flick the switch smiles
sans flowers
sans warmth
sans love
sans joy
Om swastiastu
A comatosed zen existence
tranquillised by meditation
and brutalised by self imposed austerity?
Om swastiastu
No
No
No
not for this little black duck!
She is om swastiastuing herself
back to Gondwana land
Today
back to the dreamtime
to rearrange her thoughts
to sing her own song again
with coloratura notes that
will ring like crystal plinks
throughout the lands
Om swastiastu
And
No thank you to you too
I like the unique flavour and images of your poetry. I like the goodbye or the inward reflection to my mind:

Nice to meet you~
all hail and prosperity? i googled...is that correct? youknow sometimes good byes end up being good things...the repitition of it is a bit haunting...nice write...
ReplyDeleteYou've hit on a topic I often have wondered about--the tuning out of life some people seem to do in search of...something better? There is a lot of arrogance in deciding which things matter and which things are distractions, and you catch that well here, as well as a strong sense of place. Very well written. The last stanza sings.
ReplyDeleteThanks hedgewitch. It's all mainly arrogance and self delusionary. Patrick White said the most important things that happen to you in life ,happen to you before you are born.I'm afraid he is right!
ReplyDeleteGood heavens..it's nice to meet you too!
ReplyDeleteThis goodbye was a killer gut wrencher Brian...not a good thing
ReplyDeleteOm swastiastu is a joining of the hands greeting that is not really translatable...along with most other things in Balinese culture which abounds in mystery and magic.
You know what? To heck with him...... I think that's what Brian was saying, and I say it too, but I felt that incredible pain and hurt there young lady. An automatic smile reserved for no one special, doesn't care about your flowers, no warmth, no love, no joy, no emotion, just a cold goodbye as if the stars and moon weren't leaving your life or his. I don't think he deserves your roses, and I think you told him that with "and no thank you to you too", but I'm certain that mine just a personal opinion...... incredible emotion in this poem...... I've shared this feeling many times in my life..... I'm glad that I persevered through this dVerse list and found you near the end...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found my poem near the end too. Thank you for your insightful comment.Empathy and shared experience are always a great comfort. Thank you once again johnallenrichter.
