For Isabel's Sunday Tree Party
I didn't have brothers or sisters
I grew up with this beauty instead
I knew I would marry underneath her mantle
She knew everything about me
Had seen me at my best at my worst
The day came
My family was delighted
His family was thrilled
We
had reservations
and then some
She
waving and swaying
her branches in festive mode
playing at hula hands
was indifferent
She
had seen it all before
Dear Rall
ReplyDeleteI want to crawl into the secret rooms in the roots of your tree - what a magnificent beauty.
(and the photo ain't bad either)
Enchanting poem (but sad, okay) which I think captures the presence and power of these creatures we so often abuse.
Thank you very much

The word I was looking for and didn't find til hours later was lonely, rather than sad, or wistful.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand blogland: why hasn't this beautiful poem attracted comment? Why do people only look at the pieces connected to the meme/prompt they are responding to? Why do some pieces that strike me as really quite banal attract tens of rave reviews while others go quietly unread?
I know that I am a naive sort of fish but I simply don't get it.
Will be back in Oz for Christmas - what part of the world will you be in?

Isabel, thank you for your kind and insightful comment.
ReplyDeleteSome of us don't have the' common touch' and only appeal to a few like minds. Some of us are also delighted at this situation but cannot admit to it because it is considered to be elitist, non egalitarian and politically incorrect!
It is always immensely pleasurable when we stumble across a kindred spirit because in spite of hearsay we still retain vestiges of humanity and have a desire to connect to those few we can relate to.
I will be in Oz for Christmas and then Rall will be off going troppo again.
True, O Queen
ReplyDeleteI note the return of the wonderful Gunnedah Bag - is this a clue to your whereabouts?
My er, better half has decided that we will drive in our little motor from Melbourne to Forster after Christmas, a feat we have previously accomplished in one looooong day avec les enfants et les chiens ... which I think is why we did it.
Happy All Saints then.
