At first they indulged
in bouts of banter
with a strong element
of flirtation

Then the direction changed
into something a little more serious
Duty and morality emblazoned
on both consciences
brought this galloping dalliance
to a halt suddenly in a cloud of dust

Now that it has settled
and the waters are as still
as a mill pond
all memory of it has faded
with just ripples from the wind
time to time

  5. Ah! Those "what ifs" from long ago. Why is it after so many busy years such short romances still persist in your mind. Now you have rekindled a few!

  7. I like this very much. Melancholy and dreamy is the feeling it gives me. I think most of us have some of those sweet memories

  8. it seems sad that duty got in the way, but maybe it wasn't really meant to be more that a fleeting memory. Really enjoyed.

  9. I can feel those ripples from here, though. I like the cloud of dust too.
