twas inevitable
curiosity
got the better of him
could not resist
seeing what those
twittering gals
were up to
perched like doves
on a cramped ledge
absorbed in needlework
he was wary of women
strange creatures
they could unsettled him
with their never ending
resourcefulness and solidarity
grateful for some fresh air
sitting in the light
being out in the open
they form a tableau
of contentment and camaraderie
instead of peering out
from behind lace
straining eyes by kerosene lamps
hunched over in dark houses
soot on their thimbles
Ha, good one. And came here to read the poem about 'The Perfect Gentleman' but got lost amidst all your poetic endeavors. Anyways, keep writing. Hoping to catch up with your poems.
ReplyDeleteJust keep scrolling wandering through the poems and you will find Imran Ahmad "The Perfect Gentleman" ...an amusing autobiography of Imran trying to fit into British Society.
DeleteI think I too would be curious. though I cannot imagine being so entranced as the women in the picture look with needlework.
ReplyDeleteLove that curiosity got the better of him
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those poems that reads so effortlessly you wonder if the words or image came first..poor chap..not only does he have an unfortunate moustache..those gals will be a giggling and gossiping when he leaves..
ReplyDeleteExcellent scene--the ladies enjoying the fresh air! Thanks for posting

ReplyDeleteSooty thimbles are deadly for lace! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a mine of information MMT:)
