Ode To The Harbour Bridge

dverse

you stand there
like a big
coat hanger
surveying all
around you
many choosing
to use you rather
than the tunnel
hidden underneath
the ferries
and the bobbing waves
for the daily commute
busy moving ants
on a wire
bustling back and forth
all day long
joining the north
to the south
chalk and cheese
staring brazenly
at the east
who see it
as part of a
personal possession
enjoyed from
the dining table
swimming pool
or the deck
of an expensive boat
used infrequently
spending
the rest of  the time
as a sad solitary
host to a
flock of seagulls
on its lonely mooring

  3. Love the opening-- You stand there like a big coat hanger, such a perfect image, and the busy ants on a wire. So many images that jump out at me here.

  4. I actually have a brother who migrated to Sydney Australia and he has been telling us to visit his family ~ I would to see this bridge someday ~ Great imagery with coat hanger & solitary host to a flock of seagulls ~

  6. ah the harbour bridge is fascinating... when i worked in sydney for some short weeks, i stayed in glebe and had to cross the harbour bridge by bus to get to work each day...always a highlight of the day..

  7. Like that you paid homage to a bridge..lots of symbolism there...shape, size, function..romantic and especially loved by birds to soar from..

  8. Love the coat-hanger image of the bridge. And the loneliness at the end is a nice contrast

  9. A fine tribute to an iconic bridge, which, for those who rely on it every day, is much more than a tourist attraction - even if there is a tunnel option!

  11. "like a big coat hanger" it does look that way. I love the ending as well.
