almost everyday
i would walk outside in my apron
and look at the tree pencil drawings
delicately outlined against the horizon
cows in yellow plastic earrings
would low softly
as the sun descended
quickly behind the mountains
throwing up an instant chill
the richly technicolour cinematic beauty
was just too splendid a performance
all the time
like eating rich creamy pavlova
every day

for the first time i understood
why all of the early settlers homes
had frosted glass
they just did not want to see outside
Not wanting to see outside is not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Maybe the frosted glass can lead to introspection.
ReplyDeleteIntrospection is necessary to meditate and reflect without distraction. You are being very profound lately MMT
Deleteha. what is it about sunsets that make us think cake...that is funny....
ReplyDeletethe opening scene of this, sounds so peaceful to me...i would def want to see it...
but maybe you are right, like cake, too much of a good thing and you lose the flavor...
The visuals, your words... combined, they make me want to eat all the cake. Beautiful ending to poetry month.
ReplyDeleteThe pavlova is an Aussie invention made of meringue fresh cream, lots of berries and passion fruit...to die for! Before anyone shuffles off this mortal coil they should experience Sydney rock oysters and Pavlova( not together of course:)
ReplyDeleteLovely comparisons:)
ReplyDeleteInteresting contrasts in this--the beauty and then the beauty being too much. I am not sure I could ever get tired of lovely sunsets though. LOL
ReplyDeleteRich creamy Pavlova love this image and this really works and paints the picture. Well Done.
ReplyDeleteI love Pavlova ... Making it is a challenge, but so worth it! Nicely done ...
ReplyDeletePavlova is ethereal ... cows with yellow earrings and cow pies in the barnyard ... not so ethereal. I'd go for the frosted glass too ... wink!
ReplyDeletelove the lines painting delicious beauty...
ReplyDeleteThe idea of living in a place where you can see the sunset over a horizon appeals to me... Here it tends to disappear behind buildings or trees somehow... This was a very beautiful description.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture you've put into my mind! Awesome poem!
ReplyDeleteNever had Pavlova but it looks wonderful, just like your poem. Especially love those pencil trees :-)
ReplyDeleteTechnicolor you certainly caught...
ReplyDeleteLovely poem, evoking wide-open spaces and jewel-like sunsets.
