Captain Weird

poetry jam

captain weird
always knew that there was
safety in ordinariness conformity
and a picture perfect life

he had compiled a beautiful
suburban album
a glowing testament to
the my life is great
much better than yours badge

a clever cover
with the usual trappings and accoutrements
after years of self deception
he had lost his ability to  fly

life became a blurred vision view'd
through the bottom of a wine glass
the most exciting thing
he could manage nowadays
was a fantasy in an office chair

harmless enough i  suppose
as long as there is a strong bolt
on the gun locker
and the kitchen knives locked away

  2. So old superheroes never die, they just become weird and pretend to fly while doing wheelies in office chairs :-) Made me smile, Rall!

  4. Oh I enjoyed this. I never thought about how superheroes use "the ordinary life" as a cover but you are right of course. Thanks for posting this.

  5. Sounds like he shouldn't have gotten so "into" his ordinary life... forgetting how to fly is so sad. I had to laugh at the office chair image, though. A few teachers...I think I started it...no, that's a lie - I know I started it... after school, setting up for a big show the next day, stayed until almost midnight...and getting a bit "punchy" we had some rolling office chair races in the hall that night. No on won - or was that 'everyone won'! Who cares if you can or can't fly when you have office chairs on wheels? Sorry this is so long - whoops!

    1. Your school must be great with teachers like that. Just watch out for the fun police...:)

  10. No, no, no. He's waiting. All he only needs is the call of true distress to reignite his passion and powers.

Remember, Batman once said: “I’m whatever Gotham needs me to be.” and
“A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat on a young boy’s shoulders to let him know the world hadn’t ended.”

  12. This seems at once humorous and concerning. It's funny in the world of super heroes but quite sad in the real world because people lose their "ability to fly" all the time. Well written.

  13. The cartoon really made me laugh! A great poem as well, have to watch out for those sand castles of self importance we build, can make us self impotent... :-D

  14. I like the ironical tone of your poem, Rallentanda. And I will make sure to keep away from those knives.
