raphael's two angels
gracing t shirts
gift cards and posters
are better known
than his madonna
they look wistfully
up at the clouds
at the virgin
and the boy child
but in reality they
were two pudgy
street urchins
eyeing off the pastries
in a baker's shop
remove their shirts
capture the moment
attach wings
in brush strokes
et voila
you have a masterpiece
if you are an italian genius
love how you've captured the angels in your words...there's a note of sadness about it...
ReplyDeleteI've always loved that picture.
ReplyDeleteReally? ...I don't see it. Maybe you're in a sad mood.
ReplyDeleteyou made me smile, that the way the artist works, masterfully , crafting crfating
ReplyDeletehave a nice Wednesday
much love...
Interesting to think of the circumstances of the models for this famous pair. And yes they could well be eyeing the pastries in a shop window!
ReplyDeleteI had to go look this up, as I hadn't heard of the story behind the work. Amazing! I could definitely see the longing look...for pastries, no less! He did capture the angelic pose so well. A few modifications, and voila!
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile, Rall. Being familiar with the whole work, I've always thought that the publicity surrounding the two cherubs really took away from the appreciation fo the work. But that's our society nowadays: Pick on something that will appeal to the masses, print your T-shirts, make a fast buck, thanks very much...
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show you - beauty is, indeed, in the eye of the beholder.
ReplyDeleteYes, sadly not everyone has an appreciation of high art.
ReplyDeletenice picture and a more nicer poem
