Sting rays were always considered to be gentle non aggressive creatures . We used to swim in a lagoon which a small sting ray got washed into by a storm and could not get out again because of a sand bar. Never thought twice about it until Steve Irwin was killed by one!
I never realized that stingrays were particularly dangerous but then I don't know Steve Irwin so hadn't realized that I should change my opinion ... on the other hand .. lots of people have been killed by cars, bicycles, roller skates ... as well as by people (the list is long) .. probably a lot more than by stingrays. Bastet
