has the vote now
no more heavy crinolines
eating curds and whey
or being scared off by spiders

no longer the second sex
created for the purpose
of being a man's slave
a woman can be
anything she wants
thanks to our
great grannies
the suffragettes

thanks for sticking
hat pins in the foe and
making endless sacrifices
to obtain the vote for women

and also for
overcoming some nasty propaganda
to discredit the cause
still
a long long way to go
many women suffer
in the third world today
as we write

men must come to the realisation
that women make better leaders
blessed with greater insights equal intelligence
and superior organizational skills

so file in boys
compliantly and cooperatively
behind us
we are going to run the show now
welcome to brave new world
Midweek Motif PU
Amen to that Rallentanda - although can we please excuse Mrs Thatcher? Yes..she was a good leader but she stole my milk ;)
ReplyDeleteLet's hope women can bring much needed change to this imploding world...!!
ReplyDeleteI wish! Politicians generally should be thinking of who they represent not of themselves all the time.
ReplyDeleteI wish too. All the best men are supporters of women:)
DeleteA gentle and compelling history. I hope Hillary is elected in the USA--and that if/when she is, she lets the female side of her character take precedence again. There have been some men able to do that, but I don't see any in the running right now.
ReplyDeleteman / woman power is good as long as it is unselfish...democracy is a twisted quagmire, very difficult to remain erected for long...sigh...
ReplyDeletei wish women leaders would bring more of the feminine to the arena of politics. It will all remain the same, if we just become like men, if we follow their model. I wish we could create a new one.
ReplyDeleteIt would be good if grandmothers ruled the world - having lived much and gained much wisdom.........I enjoyed your poem and especially the accompanying pictures, LOL.
ReplyDeletePhew!...glad someone got the humour:)
DeleteI really like this. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, when any one class dominates it is a brave new world upon which we're entering. Interesting read.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's still a long way to go...
ReplyDeleteLittle Miss Muffet
ReplyDeleteSat on her tuffet
Eating her curds and whey.
It wasn't a spider
Who sat down beside her
It was Little Boy Blue and his horn.
.
I'm told.
Disgoostin'...Cosmo!
DeleteMoi?
DeleteGosh you are just soooooooo Mooooooonee Ponds!!!!!:)
ReplyDeleteI thought ladies wanted sexism to be a thing of the past, and equality to reign strong, mmm, depends on ones gender how this piece can be interpretated
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on an understanding of irony and a sense of humour ...also possibly an IQ test.
ReplyDeleteWell-penned, Rall. Women can contribute equally well (or badly) to politics (and for the words in parenthesis, I refer to your comment on Pauline on my entry ;-)...
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose I know you well enough to call you a smart arse (big grins !!!)
DeleteHello,I agree whole heartedly that no woman should be second class, I can't imagine what the suffragettes went through, but, grateful to them I am. I also wish for women to have a free vote through out the world, and a vote that counts. I see the irony within and have enjoyed re visiting your poem.
