april usually wears a wattle yellow skirt
making an entrance bathed in sunshine
swinging her russet silk purse
this year she arrived in a mask and latex gloves
everyone is cowering under the stones
easter has been cancelled
no one told the daisies
with luck the bunnies might be back next year
along with church bells choirs and palm fronds
DAY 2
now is the time for compassion
drive the snakes from the garden
bury the snark and spite
see the good
sometimes it requires a microscope
it's there somewhere
if you look
Day 3
on est ce qu'on fait
"you are what you do"
the existential mantra
wrote a paper on it
(the mantra is all i remember)
that and being careful to reflect and echo
the prevailing cultural marxist ideology
of the philosophy department
so much for academic freedom
or any freedom
all an illusion
smoke and mirrors
always thought sartre displayed symptoms
of repressed christianity
certainly couldn't say that before
(not if i wanted to gain a distinction grade)
but i can now

Day 4
1938 - 2020
tears will be flowing all around the world today
bill withers has left us
the inspiration for so many joyful episodes in a life
his magic the stuff of poetry soaring way up
to the firmament of twinkling stars and wonder
thank you dear one for all the happiness and hope
may your eternal life be an endless lovely day

Day 5

Galileo
liked throwing canon balls
from the top of the leaning tower of pisa
it was fun
worked out size doesn't matter
big and small
get there in the end
hit the ground at the same time
nowadays the judge does not
accept scientific experiments
as an excuse
drop canon balls into the traffic
from the overpass
and you go to prison

Well done, Rall. Her April Fools joke this year is a frightening one. Though I think humans are more to blame..........it is a very strange spring. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteUtterly brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOh, good one, rall!
ReplyDeleteI love the sassy image of April in her wattle yellow skirt, Rall. The ‘mask and latex gloves’ are so real to us all now, a stark contrast to the usual Easter joy. So much truth in the second poem, especially:
ReplyDelete‘sometimes it requires a microscope
it's there somewhere
if you look’.
Wise words in weird times. I'm still going to have a hot cross bun, virus or no virus.
ReplyDeleteOh Sassy April please bring your bunnies next year. Love how she is dressed!
