a moment's respite
in a world gone mad
lurline bay
another blow
the lovely old ferries are being scrapped
it never ends
early last century
victorians idea of a a fun day out
jaws of death
the grown ups
always looked so beautiful
when she was a child
she couldn't wait

Ahhhhhhh .....
ReplyDeleteA progression of pleasure!
ReplyDeleteThey did look beautiful, didn't they? It's never the same for the next generation. The former ones were so much more formal. Children are always eager to grow up. They don't realize childhood lasts such a short time.
ReplyDeleteIt is strange that as a child you can't wait to grow up only to realise then how good it was to be young with parents to love and care for you.
ReplyDeleteI can see how the picture of the grownups would settle deep in a child's mind. Sad about the ferries and the jaws of life is amazing. Nice reflective words to go with.
ReplyDeleteEach a combination of sweetness and poignancy.
ReplyDeleteExcellent writings Rall Wonderful little tales — beautiful. Engages one to think. I am pleased to join in at P&SU in this new year. Hope it’s a good one for all
ReplyDeleteI'm with Rosemary, except that I would add longing to the mix of "sweetness and poignancy." The last one, in particular, leaves me wondering if the speaker feels the same way after she becomes an adult. And the "jaws of death" fun is so very Victorian.
ReplyDeleteTime passes. Everything passes. You can keep the jaws of death - I'm a tree-hugger for a good, solid reason.
