another blow

the lovely  old ferries are being scrapped

it never ends





early last century

victorians idea of a  a fun day out 

jaws of death



the grown ups

always looked so beautiful

when she was a child

she couldn't wait

  1. They did look beautiful, didn't they? It's never the same for the next generation. The former ones were so much more formal. Children are always eager to grow up. They don't realize childhood lasts such a short time.

  3. I can see how the picture of the grownups would settle deep in a child's mind. Sad about the ferries and the jaws of life is amazing. Nice reflective words to go with.

  6. I'm with Rosemary, except that I would add longing to the mix of "sweetness and poignancy." The last one, in particular, leaves me wondering if the speaker feels the same way after she becomes an adult. And the "jaws of death" fun is so very Victorian.

  7. Time passes. Everything passes. You can keep the jaws of death - I'm a tree-hugger for a good, solid reason.
