rivers overflowing
drowning destroying
everything in its wake
floods everywhere
when all fails
retreat to the world
of winnie the pooh
a gentler time of childhood
sadly we know

for most of us
there can never be enough
for most of us
hence
our disastrous calamitous world

When the grown-up world seems overwhelming, some find it helpful to turn off the news broadcasts. Or analyze them. Anguish sells, so as noted in dsnake's poem, news shows tend to be edited for minutes of anguish, minutes of "sports action" or weather (though weather can be played for additional anguish), and a minute or two of local niceness. Reality does not necessarily conform to the proportions the market analysts dictate for TV.
