they were magic to me
my first heels at fifteen
in red too
carefully wrapped in tissue paper
in a shoe box
I would look at them lovingly before sleep
a birthday present I will never forget
even half a century later
not sure why
but it makes me a little sad

Your shoes took me back to the kitten heels I had at fifteen (the only heels I ever wore in my life). I wore them to church when I sang in the choir. I had a round brimmed beige hat with streamers down the back...........makes me sad because we were so innocent then and our dreams were so big. No idea what lay ahead but we thought it would all be wonderful. Smiles. I can imagine how you felt unwrapping the parcel and finding those beautiful red shoes!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this lovely comment Sherry...I am putting on Dreamer(Super Tramp ) for you

ReplyDeleteThanks Ollie !
ReplyDeleteSometimes there is a tinge of sadness that comes with those long-ago happy memories. I understand!
ReplyDeleteRall, the last line, that resonated with me. Looking back always makes me wistful... I loved this. Amy
ReplyDeleteAh! Magic to me, too, in this beautifully nostalgic piece!
ReplyDelete"my first heels at fifteen"...aw...I also wore a little heel in my teens. Aah...gone are the days!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful poem, which holds the kind of emotion I can relate to both with the shoes and from the age involved.
ReplyDeleteI cherished that kind of gift and kept them boxed and safely stored...
