Margot and Anne Frank
i wonder
what these girls would say
in response
to the child sacrifice in Gaza
sadly we will never know
they were tortured and murdered
in the holocaust
along with 6 million other jews
so you see
we keep on doing this
and PLEASE
no holier than thou stance
WE all carry the guilt
how many jews were turned back
on the boats by our nations
and sent to their deaths ?
we did not want them
no one wanted them
SO WHAT... now we have developed a social conscience?
learnt that no one wins in a war ?
we have changed?
Wouldn't that be wonderful !
is it somehow politically expedient
that we have decided that is not OK
to sacrifice children or commit genocide?
OR is that a fate only suited to certain races?
say 1 million tutsis in rwanda
you say it could not happen again
don't bet on it
PRAY FOR PEACE
AND REMEMBER
ALL MEN ARE EQUAL
IN THE EYES OF THE LORD
WE ARE All GOD'S CHILDREN
Let us return child sacrifice to the darkest corner of history, and
work towards a brighter future with those who choose life, Arabs
and Jews alike, all of us Abraham’s children.

What a powerful poem, Rall.
ReplyDeleteBravo! Thank you Rall for this poem... so powerfully, pointedly and perfectly put.. though some might point fingers of apolotical correctness. Just watched Zone of Interest a few days ago.. which I would advise ALL to watch (especially in a dark room or theater)... This is a horrific situation... I do not claim to have any answers... This morning before this prompt I wrote this quick poem...
ReplyDeleteHow do you fight a peaceful war?
Risen from crematoria ash
To protect safe haven and never again
How do you fight a peaceful war?
With adversaries who pledge annihilation
As innocents run and fall in the cross-fire
How do you fight a peaceful war?
Not until the spring rain falls with
wet white olive blossoms of hope in
dappled sunshine glistening
over verdant land
Rall are you monitoring my comment? I was wondering if I could share your poem ... it is very powerful!

ReplyDeleteI so agree, Rall. The horrors are terrible, whichever people are under attack. One would think we would have evolved by now but I think things are actually worse. Putin is threatening nuclear war........that is as crazy as it gets.
ReplyDeleteI Soooo Love your poem Rall. It's always laudable when someone tears away the veil of hypocrisy. The world always has one sided view and the other side is always forgotten on purpose. The photo of Margot and Anne pierced my heart.
ReplyDeletegreat write and a unique perspective this really makes me think. A lot to take in here. Punchy poem
ReplyDeleteA terrible situation where loss of life, never seems to bring a complete end to suffering and ongoing wars.
ReplyDeleteBigotry and hatred perpetuate endless battles and instability...
This is such a powerful poem with his harsh reality. Words are the first weapon of war. I so wish humans could disarm them.
ReplyDelete(shakes head) What can I say?
