Never to be forgotten
A magic moment withAmerica's finest operatic soprano
Kathleen Battle
she was not draped in velvet
or singing filmy jazz
when she made her return to the Metropolitan Opera
at the age of 75 in 2024
when she made her return to the Metropolitan Opera
at the age of 75 in 2024
she had made a come back scintillating to her tips
revealing her enormous talent
a performance at such an advanced age (unheard of in the operatic field)
to tear strips off those jealous racist bastards
who ended her operatic career in 1994
a tragic loss to the world of opera
revealing her enormous talent
a performance at such an advanced age (unheard of in the operatic field)
to tear strips off those jealous racist bastards
who ended her operatic career in 1994
a tragic loss to the world of opera
she touched the crowd
they clapped and roared for more
they clapped and roared for more
they had not forgotten her
and neither will I ever.
and neither will I ever.

Great piece of sharing. I did not know about her.
ReplyDeleteA glorious voice indeed! Thank you Rall; I had not known of her before either, but your post sent me next to Wikipedia where I learned the details of her stellar career. I'm so grateful to have now heard her sing.
ReplyDelete" age of 75" isn't too awful old any more. Singers maybe is for voice quality. I didn't know of her but I don't listen to music much anymore.
ReplyDeleteI always feel I learn something when I visit you - I love your exploration of the world and what it can be if we look hard enough - jae
ReplyDeleteSounds as though she is like phoenix rising from the ashes.
ReplyDeleteA great tribute poem, Rall .... I wonder if a dear friend from my working past might have been in the audience ... he is VP Managing Director of the Met.
ReplyDeleteA great tribute to this soprano. What an amazing voice she has.
ReplyDeleteNot someone I am familiar with. I enjoyed reading about her in your poem, and will go off now to read more about her.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. I am not familiar with her, but she sounds
ReplyDeleteincredible.
Rare to be able to sing like that at any age. You were lucky!
