the season of advent
preparations for
His birthday
are in motion
the big day when thousands
of turkeys puds and mince pies
are washed down
with a flood of champagne
to the rhythm of popping corks
in celebration of
the Birthday Boy
who was born
in a freezing stable
warmed by the steam
of animal dung
the significance
of His birth
lost
in a sea
of secularism
just another excuse
for another party
true...pretty crazy how much gluttony goes into the celebration of the season, diluting any meaning....tight write....
ReplyDeleteWell I love the Christmas wreath but have to agree that we have been conned so much in the cause of consumerism. But here in Australia if we protest we will be accused of wowserism. I wonder whether that is in other dictionaries?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's me: party animal. But an atheist party animal so I can feel no guilt. (Love the wreath, great idea.)
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose you could fix Blogger so that it doesn't tell me that t.lemon doesn't live hear anymore every time I comment...?
ReplyDeleteThere's something to be said for secularism. :-)
ReplyDeleteWowserism? oldegg..that's a capital offense here:)

All party animals are welcome here Cosmo. Sorry for the inconvenience...can't fix lemon problem...if this means you wont be returning,
ReplyDeleteI will weep
pull out my
eyelashes
one by one
he loves me
he loves me not
wrap and post them
to you
in a lace handekerchief
Interesting slant on the holiday. I think it is all what one chooses to make it.
ReplyDeleteI guess the birthday boy did originally get presents..maybe 'men' are just less wise..I have to say j deplores the season..it's just too sad seeing people with no money buying piles of crap in the hope life might be ok for one day..bah humbug and all..
ReplyDeleteNo perfume? What's a lace andkerchief without perfume?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more. Te real reason we celebrate it has long been lost to the sound of the cash register and, it's getting worse.
ReplyDeleteVery different Christmas Wreath too :)
Ha! That's certainly true. Although the food I think is a nice way to celebrate -- all the presents a bit less so. Great pics. k.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed and disconcerted the number of people who had Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving ... I dislike it for the stores, and am disappointed for the individuals -- missing the natural flow of the seasons.
