her surrender
her despair
heightened by the
aggression and fruitless years
of trying to make things right
she finally gives up
waves the white flag
declares defeat
it is her final battle
with limited resources
she can now plan her escape
comforting herself
in the knowledge
that this time is the last time
It seems sometimes there is comfort in conceding that one has lost.
ReplyDeleteHer final battle says so much...
ReplyDeleteAmazing poem which reveals so much of her struggles and hints at the promise of freedom from so much unhappiness. Brilliantly written.
ReplyDeleteEven so, she gave up....it is partly good to stop controlling thongs, but from other side - she still alive, meaning to find the purpose for what is left...and be happy...~ nice on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteNo one person should have to do all the work. This is the first step to true happiness.:)
ReplyDeleteSaddness But sometimes it is best to concede......Blessings
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have to give it all to win..
ReplyDeleteI like this approach to the last time--comfort in knowing it is over--whatever that may be. Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteSome things you have to surrender..from..not to..that has to be a kind of conquering..hope she doesn't look back..
ReplyDeleteThe comfort is that escape to to a better place. Time is cruel but we have hope.
ReplyDeleteYes, on her way to peace!
ReplyDeletesounds like good riddance!
ReplyDeleteIt is sometimes a blessed relief to finally say "That is enough, it is not worth fighting anymore" and walk away with your head high.
ReplyDeleteOh I can relate to this. the last time for somethings and the first time for others. She has better times ahead of her...
ReplyDeleteThis uses teh prompt well but has a dark, foreboding tone to it. I hope it is just a writing exercise...
ReplyDeletei think loss is not always a loss...and the last stanza expresses the right attitude...
ReplyDeleteFor me, there can be a real relief to wave that flag, sometimes you have to, to get where you need to be. I definitely relate to this poem.
ReplyDeleteWaving the white flag was the best thing I did. It will be for her, as well.
