Tales From The Dark

Sijo Form

What a pity ! - life was her oyster ; before she used the wrong fork

In 1727 A Lady call Helen Morrison placed a person advertisement in the Manchester Weekly Journal . She was a lonely spinster looking for someone to share her life with. It is thought to be the very first newspaper personal advertisement. This was considered to be disturbing behaviour at the time and she was committed to a lunatic asylum for a month!

Jewish Daily Prayer For Men

Blessed are you Lord, our God, ruler of the universe who has not created me a woman.

Haiku

  2. Women have had a very rough trot throughout the ages until just recently and there is still a long way to go. I might do a weekly series on this subject Tales from the Dark . I must say I would not like to be a man but I would like the freedoms they enjoy which I don't, particularly in not female friendly countries on the planet Thanks for commenting Jae Rose.

  3. Here's another prayer the Jews say before entering the toilet,:

"Be honored, holy honorable ones, servants of the Most High. Help me. Help me. Guard me. Guard me. Wait for me until I enter and come out, as this is the way of humans."

    And on leaving:

"Blessed are You, God, our Lord, King of the universe, who formed man in wisdom and created within him many openings and cavities. It is revealed and known before the throne of Your glory that if one of them were to be blocked or if one of them were to be opened, it would be impossible to exist for even one moment. Blessed are You, God, who heals all flesh and works wonders."

(A cure for constipation that Blowers should learn.)

    They also pray this:

"Blessed are You, God, our Lord, King of the universe, who has not made me a non-Jew."

So its not entirely sexist as it cover gentiles of all sexes and none.

  4. Constipation prayers are a great idea...we should have those too:)

On the other side of the coin I am sure there are a lot of people who were most grateful they were non jews especially around WW2 time in Europe.

Christians used to talk of the perfidious Jews in the Good Friday service until they became politically correct!

  5. Well the New Testament is anti-semitic, don't you know? There are whole passages that need to be removed or rewritten because God inspired them before He became politically correct.

  6. Stuff and nonsense...no one of sound mind could say that ! Methinks you have your tongue stuck fast firmly in your cheek. The one on your face i.e.:)

Truth has nothing to do with political correctness. The reason we have political correctness is because truth is not always comfortable The New Testament is the basis of Western code of law and civilisation and I support this and am grateful (particularly as a woman) having been to places where this is not the case.

  7. Well, okay ... if you insist. It was just a thought. Of course it means you are a descendant of a spare rib and susceptible to seduction,

    1. I am most susceptible to seduction but about my ancestor being made from a spare rib (nah). That story is to highlight that males came first and females came next as an accessory item and companion. Clever propaganda. Nice allegorical tales in the Torah but I'll stick with the New Testament.
