Fool For You

Midweek Motif...Poets United

everyone knows
cats do not swim

what kind of fool am i
swimming after your boat

do i think
you are going to notice me

rescue me
drag me on board

offer me smoked salmon
and cream

the best i can hope for
is a  thrown life buoy

to take me safely
back to  shore

the cat sat on the mat
must try to remember

  2. This makes me smile.......I so know the feeling. Nope, no cream, just self-help to get back to the shore. Been that cat, got the t-shirt! Hee hee.

  3. aww....poor little thing!! He learnt his lesson, I am sure, Rallentanda. Enjoyed reading this fantastic poem. But then, as they say...everyone's entitled to a little foolishness once in a while. Isn't it? Smiles.

  4. Poor cat waving a paw and it looks so like my new arrival too. Who wouldn't reward such loyalty and not take it on board? And cats are good to have on ships what with keeping mice and rats at bay.

    1. Tsk ...in a beautiful pea green boat...that is not a green boat.... !:)
Puss reads too much owl poetry and is out of her depth...she has a problem with understanding the word "limitations"

  8. I really how this poem is very serious but also has touches of lightness as well. Thank you!

  9. It would be a hard hearted sailor who left the cat to drown but they can't always keep them on board either. (Smoked salmon is so expensive and the cream is bad for them. I'm told.)

    3. I think this is the sort of puss with a practical streak that would check out the dietary arrangements first before embarking on the channel crossing.
Flathead diners are less adventurous and stay on land. So you are assured of a puss free voyage Captain Scrooge:)

  10. What some people don.t know about cats would fill volumes. Some of us just remember we are cats when half way there . . . and the rat keeps on going! FUN POEM, ON ONE LEVEL.

  11. I am glad the poem didn't drift off into cat-o-nine tails territory. Cats do swim if they really have to; much like me.

  12. What a terrible admission...an Aussie who does not swim...no point in sending you a pair of budgie smugglers as a Christmas present then...will send them to Cosmo instead:)
