May Bush
About May
May bush blossoms on May 1st every year
Down Under
My Aunt's birthday is on May 4th
May she continue to tell me how lucky
I am to have my own sturdy teeth and is
the only person I know who tells me how lovely
my hair is
Mothers Day is the second Sunday
where the children who can actually
tolerate living in the same country
as their parents visit with gifts
to eat lunch
bringing their laundry as well
My Polish friend Marion said
May Day was a compulsory celebration
when he was living under a communist regime
Penalites were stiff if you did not turn up
In England May Day is big for Morris Dancers
and Maypole Dancing
The folk used to get drunk and fornicate randomly
on the village green so Cromwell banned it.
The Puritans then moved across the pond
to America where they proceeded to ban lots
of other things as well
In America the Puritan influence is still present
thus the reason there is no nude sex in
Hollywood movies
Most of the world thinks that Americans
have sex with their underwear on.
My American friend Wayne said this is not the case.
Laughter! What an amazing progression from reality (bearing living near, bringing laundry) through a leaping folk celebration to myth! May. A mixed bag.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious and informative at the same time, too cool. The underwear thing is a hoot.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha... Loooooved this short excursion into May and, of course, into pop-culture and Hollywood! The serious thing, although written rather lightly, that caught me was the 'children who can actually tolerate living in the same country as their parents' bit... I have historic reasons for how that resonates with me. Thank you for a beautiful and informative piece!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteVery wacky.
ReplyDeleteCan't stay- have to get my gear ready for some Maypole Dancing and assorted activities. Now where are those bells and sticks?
Mind 'ow you go then !

ReplyDeletelol...love all the information too...
Where to start with the great lines..I think the children tolerating being In the same country as their parents does it for me! Now you mention it didn't see/hear a single morrisman yesterday..maybe they skip the dancing and the hankies these days and go straight to the pub!
ReplyDeleteHappy Jack hopes your May Bush blossomed today and that it will for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteMade me smile and think.
