For The Weekend

dear  neighbour

say listen
if you out there
sorry

you lent me this cd
just found it lodged
in a book  i have not
opened for 20 years

your  glam girlfriend
drove a porsche convertible
i could hear you talking to her
through the wall -3am
tsk - no secrets in  terrace houses

paddington has changed
we got the tail end of the village feel
pretentious merchant bankers  have invaded

you used to play very cool music
you must be middle aged now
what a depressing thought

hope you have enjoyed your life
if  i knew where you were
i would send it
i cannot remember your name
or even your face
but i will always remember your music
thank you

I love those lines. Music, just like smell, works only too well with nostalgia. Today itself, while listening to Magnus Carlson's cover of 'Oh my darling, Clementine', I wept, thinking about my breakup that happened almost a year ago. Not that I cry and whine that often, that phase is over, but the music kind of stirred those feelings very strongly for me to resist and bottle up.

    Beautiful poem. :)

    1. It takes a long time to recover and is an awful thing to have to go through. In retrospect I don't know how any of us survive " break ups".And after all I said you still commented LOL

  2. OK, so you could hear them through the wall but did you really have to play "The Ride of the Valkyries" when they were having sex?

    1. What makes you think they were having sex? They were having a serious discussion about the properties of DNA or something. He was a science student I think. They don't commit sex until they are wed!
