Soft Jazz On The Plains

Liverpool Plains NSW

poets united

soft jazz in the middle of nowhere
on a sunny winter's sunday afternoon
looking up at this big sky one wonders why
blue is associated with sadness

you would say it is not love
all i know is that anything  wonderful
that happens to me
i  always feel an overwhelming need to
to share it with you

a kind word from you has me dancin'
pathetic perhaps but you make want to
embrace the world - it's a great feeling

  1. Thanks for sanding this happy slice of your life with us. A blue sky does not evoke sadness for me either.

  2. Nicely said and I think you have captured one of the pillars of human existence.

It doesn't have to be love, not in the Georgette Heyer sense anyway. Just to find a kindred spirit that you can share experiences with is one of life's greatest joys, greatest blessings. I have never fully understood how some people can travel alone (even though I have done it myself on occasion) - there is no-one to share a meal, a sunset, a magical moment with.

  4. Finding a kindred spirit is a blessing but not everyone is lucky. Best revel in music, poetry our beautiful winter weather,at least in NSW plus the delicious steak and mushroom pie that I am about to eat for my dinner with a glass of wine by the fire and enjoy the freedom and the luxury of vast space in this country before it all changes.

  5. How I love "a sunny winter's sunday afternoon" as winter is so pleasant here(Bengal, India)..and I also don't like to take blue for sadness...I think we all have that "overwhelming need" too...very nice write....

  8. The blue sky of the day is certainly joyous for me too.. The dark indigo of the dusk can sometimes be more morose..

  9. I enjoyed the happy spirit of this poem, and agree that it is definitely nice when someone says some words that make someone feel like dancing! No greater joy.

  12. I hear the jazz in your poem, both the smooth delightful and the atonal. I guess I would call it love--the harmony and disharmony--which draws me out--alone, but never quite lonely--to the great plains above my head and under my feet. Your poem evokes this rightness for me.

  13. Yes, that need to share the high moments really is a sign of love, and it stays. Strange though, that we all seem to have that need.
BTW, lots of racy bits in the diary: the chap loved little girls and describes them in exquisite detail. So much so that his widow burnt the diaries relating to their courting days. Draw from this what you will :-)
I can't put the book down.

  16. Hi Tanda! I loved your piece because I also share the thought of why blue is associated with sadness because the sky is blue and it has always made me dream and smile just by lying on a bed of grass in the summer time and exhale with bliss.
