the hawk and the wren
whirled through the sky
blissfully
flying and swooping
all summer long
autumn came
when the hawk broke the news
he had neglected to tell wren
of his bird realm
in which he is all powerful
generational king predator
where the wren species is not welcome
not that wrens
don't have their uses of course
they make pretty agile dance partners
flirty summer fun
before they become
tasty autumn lunch
" April is the cruellest month"
TS Eliot
Yikes! Each according to their nature, when all is out into the open. Thus powerful entities play with their victims who think they can make affect change. Scary thought indeed. Beautifully etched in words.
ReplyDeleteNature is completely open in her ways, indeed it is up to us to see and hear and comprehend! Nice one Rall.
ReplyDeleteWren's mother clearly has failed in her lessons.
ReplyDeleteAnd such is the nature of life - poor little wren..but i am glad they got to dance with you in the summer sun
ReplyDeleteAh. That's how the nature at large and that of our own works.
ReplyDeleteWell-penned.

Powerful contrast woven between the hawk and the wren..!
ReplyDeleteOh, so unexpected......and a cool response to the prompt.........you painted the scene so clearly..............
ReplyDeleteLike people have said, I like this because it is so unexpected. It is "cruel."
ReplyDeleteha when you are a wren you have to avoid the shrewd political or whatever hawk, let alone a blissful dance...
ReplyDeleteOh dear, the rude awakening.
ReplyDeletePoor wren! Someone forgot to teach her to be careful of hawks ... they are never what they seem!
ReplyDeleteI see you witnessed my first divorce. :-)) Love the tale you painted so perfectly here Rall!!
ReplyDeleteFortunately a situation nipped in the bud, so to speak. Wrens are not completely stupid.:-))
DeleteAlas! poor Wren, I knew her well!
ReplyDeleteSurvival is an art. An open forum provides that opportunity as well as makes it hazardous to attain.
ReplyDeleteSurvival is an inherited art. Agility, escape routes and portable wealth.Certain tribes have been doing it for centuries !
DeleteOh dear! Reminds of the cat that fell in love with a fish... It was an all-consuming love.
ReplyDeleteA lovely poem, Rall. Yes opposites may attract and get into relationships, but they often do end up in tearful break ups - or worse!
