pointing the bone
means you're going to die
in just a few days
you'll be dead and on high
unless you're John Howard
thick skinned made of bricks
the curse will be thwarted
isn't that just like the prick!
The indigenous people pointed the bone at John Howard ( former Prime Minister )in 2004. He is still alive 2013.In Australia the practice of bone pointing is still common enough that hospitals and nursing staff are trained to manage illness caused by bad spirits and bone pointing
An interesting belief ~ Its a challenge to marry or not these contrasting perspectives but death has been a puzzle, thick skinned or not ~
ReplyDeleteInteresting.didnt know about this.fascinating take.
ReplyDeleteThanks for ur comment on my blog.I love Eliot and keep coming back to him for resources.
What an interesting insight here. Never heard about bone pointing...and to think that it is still common.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting--I loved the piece and I am so glad that you provided an explanation for us who have no experience with bone pointing!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that...as for John Howard it is probably to bad that the bone pointing did not work. I didn't know him though so I guess I should be quiet. :)

If I may make a pun, this is the most pointed piece you have written. That election day when he was put out of office must have been a little death for him.
ReplyDeleteYes that's right. Maybe that was the curse at work. Besides he has to live with himself so that may be another one as well!
DeleteAppreciate the culture lesson and the poem.
ReplyDeleteIt may be weird but one shouldn't mess around with such things. Howard may be lucky but others might not! Nicely Rallentanda!
ReplyDeleteHank
I would not want that kind of bone pointing at me. Cool bit of history...thanks for the process notes as well!
ReplyDeleteFascinating poem.
ReplyDeleteReally? All strange things happen in this world.

Damn and blast. What else can I say?
ReplyDeleteLots:)
ReplyDeleteJust need a log fire and a bottle of something fortifying and away I'll go!
ReplyDeleteToo late..you've missed the moment..timing is everything..I will forgive you for this (13th) time x!
ReplyDeleteOh blast!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the great half-aborigine detective Inspector Napolean Bonaparte. Great series of books by Arthur Upfield. I hope he wasn't involved here...
ReplyDeleteDon't know them...will research.
