WHAT"S GOING ON ... BEING HUMAN

she
always felt different
always the odd one out

tried to fit in
to survive
but obviously
not a master of
camouflage

finally accepted
she was an alien from another planet
problematic when younger but
getting older
it made her happy and grateful to be so

she derived comfort
from her furry friends and flowers
from her humble little sanctuary
from music poetry art and nature

sometimes
she wondered
if there may be other aliens
stranded on this planet
some
in the same boat

she heard
an over educated over confident
rich bitch once say smugly
through flashing expensive dentistry
at a lunch
that poets were alien beings
never to be taken seriously

hmmm...
good place to start the search

BINGO
not alone anymore
flying high together

  1. This made me smile. A way nicer smile than the gleaming chopper smile, lol. I love it. I am grateful, too, to be outside the norm.

  2. "finally accepted
she was an alien from another planet"
Beautifully done, even especially finding alien a good place to start!

  3. Your poem resonated with me, Rall, as one who ‘always felt different / always the odd one out’, and finding it easier to be ‘an alien from another planet’ now I’m older, especially when communicating with fellow poets – alien beings we may be, but we are not alone.

  4. Yup. This is a feeling so many of us share, that simply being different. Is that what makes us create? I hope so.

  5. I like that we are in our poetry world also - you meet the most delightful people (the worst insult among many, was being called average !) Jae

  6. Give me aliens any time rather than earthlings, to use your language! Wonderful poem, Rall!
