a beautiful day
spring tomorrow
not sorry winter has left
still too cold to sit
in the rock pool
lovely to wiggle toes
in it just the same
the sea smells so good
the salty breeze fills my lungs
whistles through my ears
for the first time in ages
i am not looking longingly
at the horizon
i will sleep on the boat
when the weather gets warmer
i say that every year
That old siren the sea continually calls us back like some yearning mother of millennia ago.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was in your timezone smiles ~ What a great day to go out, smell the sea and maybe sleep on the boat, ha ~
ReplyDeletenice restful Sunday... :)
ReplyDeletenice images... and "i am not looking longingly at the horizon" - that must be a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteThis takes me back to the sea I knew as a child--peaceful
ReplyDeleteI envy you the smell of the sea....hope this year you do sleep on the boat! So lovely to be lulled to sleep by the waves.
ReplyDeleteI like the spacing of this poem, each stanza an exhale of word/thoughts. Together they give a sense of renewed wonder and possibility. Saying this every year, your last stanza, feels more an acceptance than a complaint.
ReplyDeleteA minor observation but the equinox is not fo another three weeks . . . regardless the sentiment here is lovely.
ReplyDeleteSpring in the southern hemisphere is Sept 1st which is today (your tomorrow )!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it would be great fun to sleep in a boat! I can understand why you would think about that every year. I wish we were facing spring rather than fall....and I'd love to smell that sea breeze.
ReplyDeleteA salt water foot bath. Very nice.
ReplyDeletethe sea is every season's (except for winter) hangout. love the quietness in the springtime, love the noise and hullabaloo in the summer, love the serenity in autumn.
ReplyDeleteSleep!
