Haiku Heights

a perfect cadence
to our song, not much to ask
a cuppa and a laugh

a two chord ending
perfect imperfect plagal
musician's jargon

guy wearing sarong
poetic inspiration
on a sandy beach

a perfect ending
to a Sunday afternoon
in the summertime

For The Weekend

Remember This?

dverse

Featuring the prose poetry of  guest writer Cro Magnon of Magnon's Meanderings blog who is patiently awaiting the Spring.

Remember when we used to walk about in shorts and T shirts ?
When the heat of the mid-day sun made us retreat to shady spots beneath the trees?
When Peaches,Tomatoes, and Figs were there for the picking?
When the sound of splashing in the pool was music to our ears ?
When butterflies landed on our arms, and wasps in the butter?
And when the trees still had leaves?

Well, it's ony a few months away...we just have to survive this bloody awful winter rubbish
that's being thrown at us.
Our fields are squelchy wet, it's bloody cold, and the wretched tarpaulin covering the wood pile has sprung a leak.

So, for the moment we'll just have to rely on photos, memories, and our aspirations.

Patience Cro, patience!

Three Word Wednesday

an affable rangy boy
an unusually tall balinese
with clark kent glasses

we drive to bedugul
eat strawberry crepes
he calls me boss

looks intellectual serious
was my driver
i leave for a year

i return
every inch of his body
is galvinised with tattoos

he has met the beautiful dewa
married and is to become
a father

And i missed the wedding

Paddington Poetry Jam

dverse open link night

in sydney this is my home
even when i was a student
living on a shoe string

i lived here
in the days when the 'royal'
was not a trendy pub

where local ladies called ruby and pearl
with rollers in hair nets had a shandy
shelled the peas in the ladies parlour
just a working class pub

(i lived in this street as a student )

( the street where i live now)

the gentrification
has not improved the ambience
of this inner city suburb
but at  least it has has eliminated the dog turds
which one had to hopscotch over to get
to the shop previously

beautiful fireplaces, old doors and stained glass
are tossed in the street to make way for the
the sanitised art gallery show room look
favoured by the vacuously rich this season

renovation is a great topic for bragging
at dinner parties in local restaurants
none of which could be taken seriously
as far as the quality of fare goes

which brings me to thomas dux my local grocer
beautiful but in this case the nearest shop
being definitely the dearest stop so overpriced
where the price of a bag of cherries could
feed a third world family for a month

ten minutes away
is the harbour pool 'redleaf'
good for a quick swim

' Redleaf ' Harbour Pool

when i was a child
the old hungarian ladies with blue tattooed numbers on their arms
wore shower caps with half moon specs on strings breast stroking up down
up down rabbiting on to each other while we dug holes in the sand to china
they have long since gone and a part of my life here has gone with them

even though the backlanes no longer drip with frangipani and jasmine
now replaced by  the structural look -  fashionable no mess cacti
even though the 150 year old fig trees have been chopped down at the scottish hospital
to make way for development

paddington will always be that magical place for me
the place which once held all my hopes and dreams
the place of my youth
a long time ago

not a great idea
digging a hole to china
easier to walk

if he never calls
he's just not into you
give up it's useless

tears are quite useless
you will never persuade him
to read Sylvia Plath

Temptation

dverse

Quatern

temptation that i oh so love
with delicious taste and texture
filling all the gaps and large holes
making life good so much better

my birthday suit needs altering
temptation that i oh so love
is stacking on the pounds by pounds
my clothes ill fitting and too tight

sugar addiction is quite strong
like nicotine and alcohol
temptation that i oh so love
could ruin my health in the future

so i will ration my sweet love
to one per week and take with tea
look forward to that special treat
temptation that i oh so love

For The Long Weekend (Australia Day)

SHADORMA

invasion
the hordes  come to town
party time
drunken louts
happy australia day -right
crowds just everywhere

i stock up
movies books and booze
grey and wet
overcast
thankyou Lord for this weather
spending it in bed

pitter pat
raindrops on window
currawongs
calling out
sometimes i love my small life
today's one of them

A Hug From A Stranger

dverse

two week ago
in a country town car park
parked next to a disabled spot
out jumps a slim/thin striking woman
beautiful skin bright blue eyes

she comments on her car being
too close to mine
we chat about the sweltering heat
chit chat chit chat animatedly
she's nice...i like her

i make a smart arse remark
about her not appearing to be disabled
she looks me straight in the eye
with that unflinching gaze that
only an aussie can pin you down with
and says
" I'm dying "

We kept on talking for a bit while I quizzed her on the why and wherefores and we got close in a matter of seconds. I was driving on  my way back to Sydney... could not stop for long... eight hour drive. She put her arms around me and thanked me for my kind and comforting words. What she didn't know was I should have thanked her ... that hug saved my life in another way. I don't even know her name.

The Lady's For Burning

3WW : Poets United

she probed and probed
searching for a skerrick
of inner strength

some malevolent and repulsive
criticism would be welcome right now
to ease the break

she looked in the mirror
a scorched wilted sunflower
looked back at her

she had been
uncharacteristically patient
waiting and waiting

for some reason
she could never contain her chariot
in a polite little  trot around the park

she rode with him full speed
like a comet through space
and like always

she  flew too close to the sun

Haiku Heights

dverse oln

he pressed her buttons
she yearned to reconnect him
little voice said no

he loved sticking sharp
pins into her effigy
watching her suffer

child's ingratitude
sharper than a serpent's tooth
all consuming pain

Rall's Rollin' Heights

Ripper Haiku Ripostes

Welcome to Rall's Rollin' Heights. The only requirement is that comments must be in haiku.

better than a poke
in the eye with a sharp stick
quaint british saying

better than a slap
in the face with a wet fish
sharp aussie saying

Tree Lover

dverse

                                         one day
                                     i will wake up
and you  will be cut down
                           because the council has decreed
you are a problem for the neighbourhood
no one will even notice it
                                  too busy networking
                                  business comes first
                                         that's life

                                          why don't
                                          you realise
                             that shrouds  have no pockets
and that not even the pharaohs
could work out a way to take it with them
when you are dead no one will care
if you are rich or poor
                                       take joy in trees
                                           right now

Sedoka For A Cor Anglais

royal stylish bright and bold
reedy honky sultry sounds

so did bach mozart and brahms
sad- not heard much anymore

Beyond The Black Stump

POETS UNITED

this was a mistake
6 years and still not completed

this was another mistake
never invite an artist to decorate your shed

this was not a mistake
i liked schlepping Derrick around the Plains
with  dinosaurs in tow

this is Cro
pretending he's an aussie
shooing cows in France
this could be a mistake
if he finds out
i put this on

this was a necessity for women in a certain era
not sure what it was for
but on a visit to morpeth
one could possibly guess

this was a mistake
willy wag tail's nest too close to the ground

these plants thrive on neglect
congratulations

this is the last pic of fat frog
who lived on the screen door
before the bush fires last year

this red cattle dog
is very strange
looks very much at home

you can have acres of these
they love 45 degree celsius heat
your own personal garden of eden
with serpents- big brown ones
that kill you stone dead

this was not a mistake
behind this fence is a pool
covered by a rusty tin roof
where my best friend the peppercorn tree
and i spend a lot of the day

dreaming
dreaming
dreaming
in the still hush
of unrelenting heat
