For The Weekend
Moveable Feast
at 28
ravel composed this
at 28
i learnt to ride a bike
at 28
his music took up residence
in my blood stream
a flurry of stringendo
quivering quavers
at 28
it never occurred to me
that life was not viewed
as a merchant and ivory
film production with a musical score
at 28
i had no understanding
of anything
an alien newly arrived
from the moon
at 28
there were
lots of lunches
telephone chats
dinner parties
there was time
a slower pace
it was safe
at 28
there was no
possibility of
children
holding up severed heads
at tea time
at 28
architectural design
had not reached the
advanced stage
of an ensuite
without a door
nostalgie de la boue
at 28
there was no concept
that any of us
would live in
a world like this one
so i don't
and i wont

ah...some nice reflections there...
ReplyDeletewaht a comparison
ReplyDeleteAll you say is true. At 28 I had my child and never guessed her world and mine would look the way it does today. But worry only makes the negative stronger. So, I'm with you. I won't.
ReplyDeleteThis poem takes me back.....I, too, at 28 was an alien newly hatched.........the severed heads at teatime gave me pause.......love your closing lines.....
ReplyDeleteHow essential it is not to be the sheep that your photo alongside this box depicts. We are nobody unless we do things differently. The female violinist could have looked a little happier!
ReplyDeleteI disagree...we are nobody unless we swim with the current tide of opinion and mores. I like being nobody.
DeleteI agree with you about the viola player.I almost did not put this on because of her facial grimaces and contortions... a big no no in classical training.!
DeleteAnd I don't blame you! Musicians and poets are lucky enough to create their own world--amen to that!
ReplyDeleteAnd if we had good education systems and societies with strong emphasis and respect for the arts, our world would be a better place. Sadly finance and technology are the things that count and the arts are in decline.
DeleteTo live in the world we want can take a lot of work. Good luck to us all.
