high spirited creature
they tried to break it
flogging and thrashing
drawing blood trying to
cripple it but nothing worked
some horses cannot be broken
so they lurked in the shadows
caught it unawares
shot it stone dead
buried it on all hallows eve
then talked of peace and love
and the horrors of war
Bastards....seems mankind can't tolerate spirit - horse or human
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Jae Rose!
DeleteSeems like sometimes people don't realize the contradictions in their behavior.
ReplyDeleteOh I think they do...just nasty types !
DeleteBecause are like the horse that is full of spirit and resists being broken, we must be aware that there are those who would like to see us broken.
ReplyDeleteseem mankind must always be the master, such a shame though
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Wednesday
much love...
Yes, "they" do. The film was not as powerful as your poem.
ReplyDeletepoor thing wild creatures should be left alone to live as the choose
ReplyDeleteI feel a hole in the pit of my stomach! So hard to read ~ your telling of it is exquisite.
ReplyDelete...and the more this contradiction - the scarier word 'human' become...
ReplyDeletescars of war... may be it will healed in another lifetime
ReplyDeleteThe beauty in these creatures - I guess man is jealous...
ReplyDeletePainful poem.
ah .. this is such a shocking poem ... the hypocracy ... the poem moves me to anger ...
ReplyDeleteDouble standards. Sadly, only too common today
ReplyDeleteWould they really do that?
ReplyDeleteWhatever world you live in...stay there ...because you wont like the real one...not nice !
DeleteThis is a horrifying tale to me. What is wrong with people? Beautiful picture of the horse you have posted.
ReplyDeleteooh this was a bit violent for my tastes. i feel for animals but yet i'm still a meat eater, go figure.
ReplyDeleteThis poem has impact, Rallentanda. What is it in human nature that feels it must "break" and conquer one's spirit, whether human or animal? I dont get it.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to understand human nature ...read the Bible...best psychology book in the world followed by the Shakespeare plays!
Deletefantastically written piece a nice take on the prompt
ReplyDeleteWoolen Socks

Yes, we must watch out for devil's herd, so we don't wind up chasing them on this ghosty night.
ReplyDeletehard, unpalatable truth...
ReplyDeleteanimals are better than human !
ReplyDeleteI know people who would agree with you.
DeleteUgh. Brutal. Beating animals is not only cruel but I think it reflects a violent nature within the ones doing it, whether they recognize it or not.
ReplyDeletebrutality in any form is just so unacceptable ...
ReplyDeleteExcellent writing on a horrid subject which needs to be exposed.
ReplyDeleteA horrific truth here....thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteSo sad, especially more so after the two horse deaths at the Cup...
ReplyDeletePrescient poem...not unusual for me !
