i heard mummy
saying to my aunt flossie
that she would never be barren
that she was more fertile
than the black soil
of the liverpool plains
that she could get pregnant
by just ironing one of my father's shirts
and could easily end up as
the old woman who lived in a shoe
who had so many children
because she didn't know what to do
i worry that she may be intensely angry
with me for swapping my baby brother
for a piglet at the fair
but as she does a lot of ironing
i should imagine i will have a lot more
baby brothers
Oh how I love this! Grinning.
ReplyDeleteHow cute and a bit sardonic.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! Where do babies come from? Brilliant use of the illustration of Alice holding the pig and then extending the tale through the idea of the old woman in the shoe who had children BECAUSE she didn't know what to do. Perhaps Alice could sneak the pig into the baby's bed and noone would notice?. She loves adventures.
ReplyDeleteLOL too funny
ReplyDeleteI laughed so much at this, especially as Aunt Flossie and i shared a similar problem with shirts, ironing and lots of kids :D
ReplyDeleteOh my this is so cute! My mom was exactly like your mummy:)
ReplyDeleteI laughed all the way through this as it was so funny. Brilliant Rallentanda!
ReplyDeleteVery good.
ReplyDeleteDo spare a thought to the poor pig who will probably grow up confused about its identity. Cross-specie adoptions rarely work. Then thee's the injustice of depriving Mummy and Daddy pig of their offspring. This is not good animal welfare.
You are becoming very odd. Too much time on the farm. You need to frolic about in the sunshine...think wholesome thoughts and flowers.
DeleteTsk....I've never seen this picture of Alice and the pig....so thank you for that and making me :)
ReplyDeletevery witty and humorous poetic narration
ReplyDeletei almost thought this was about the Bobbsey Twins because of Flossie. But then it's about Alice in Alice in Wonderland, right? very childlike poem, great for the motif.
ReplyDeleteLove the comedy in this. It is very good.
ReplyDeletefunny but shows the innocence of a child
